Please notify us at braunton10@ndroadrunners.com before the 12th of January 2020, if your name, age or club affiliation is incorrect. We will not be able to make changes after that date.

Here are a few things to inform you of and remind you about.

Parking:

Before you even think about picking up your race pack, you'll need to have parked your car in the right place, as there will be no waiting outside the school or anywhere nearby. Parking will be provided courtesy of Perrigo (Postcode: EX33 2DL). The car park holds 300 cars, so there should be plenty for everyone, especially if you car-share. Access to the car park is off the A361 and signs with a marshal will be at the junction. Please follow their instructions, as they will ensure the car park is used efficiently and the exit from the car park does not get blocked.

Do not attempt to park at the Williams Arms, we have a vicious marshal here, who working in conjunction with the Williams Arms, will be checking if you have pre-booked a post-race meal. Even then, only 20 places are available. Once parked at Perrigo, follow the signs to registration in the Isaac Hall at the Braunton Academy. Allow 5-10 mins to walk there.

Race Packs:

Race packs can be collected on the day between 9:00am and 10:40am from the Registration Hall (Isaac Hall at the Braunton Academy). Please be able to identify yourself, if requested.

Your race pack will contain your Race Number, (Green for 10 Miles /Orange for 10K) and the T-Shirt Size you specified on your entry. Sizes can't be exchanged until after everyone has had a chance to collect their requested size. The medal is collected at the finish line - Well you need some motivation don't you?

If there is an issue, please remember everyone is a volunteer and doing their best. If need be, they will ask you to wait aside until one of the Race Committee can come and talk to you, to resolve it.

Refreshments:

Available both pre and post race in the Registration Hall. The coffee, tea and cake, I am assured will be excellent and very reasonable. Fuel up before you go out and replenish when you get back, while waiting for the prize giving.

Toilets:

There are toilets and limited changing facilities available in the Registration Hall.

Baggage:

A baggage minding service will be provided. This is not in the same hall as registration, but in the Sports Hall across adjacent to it. Signs will guide you and marshals should be on hand to assist you. Use the tear-off from your race bib to attach to your bag. Bags can then be collected at the end of the race.

Race Briefing and Start:

A mandatory briefing will take place inside the Registration Hall at about 10:45. This is for your health and safety. Please do your best to attend. The race starts outside the school at 11:00 am. We only have permission to hold-back traffic from joining roads for a maximum of 10 minutes, therefore the race will start promptly and if you are late then your time will be worse than you hoped for. Runners will be asked to assemble in the car park opposite the Registration Hall, (i.e. the Braunton Race Track car park), until 5 minutes before the start. You will then be called to the start by the Race Director; an exceedingly handsome gentleman with a well-groomed beard.

Water Stations:

There are 3 water stations. 2 main water stations, (one at circa 2.5 miles and another at circa 6.5 miles [10 mile course] and a supplementary water station at circa 8 miles [or 6km for the 10K course].

Safety on the course:

Please take care and listen to any instruction given by marshals, some junctions have traffic, which can't see you until the last minute. Please keep to the left of the road, unless a curve in the road otherwise makes it more sensible to be on the right.

DO NOT WEAR HEADPHONES: You can't hear important safety advice and you may be disqualified. Singing is allowed, if not encouraged, provided you have been certified by a medical professional, as not being tone-deaf.

In a Medical Emergency FIRST dial 999 and then the First Aiders (Medicare 07865 662 200). You can also contact the Race Director: Justin on 07919 345 966 - The race team will also be operating a number of 'Handheld Radios', throughout the event and along the course.

In 2019 we had an incident whereby a runner had a 'support vehicle' following them during the race. This not only caused disruption to the runners behind, who had to breath in exhaust fumes, but also poses a safety risk. Supporters are welcome to cheer you on at points on the course, but in no circumstances may they follow you around the course.

If cones are provided, then run inside them, (no not literally - there will always be one). If you have an issue, make your way to the nearest marshal point and/or wait for the course (grim) sweeper to come by. They will have a radio and we can arrange help.

Please drop any water cups as near to the water stations as possible, (not on the marshals) /or at the next marshal point. This includes Gels and the Greggs Pasty wrappers you may be carrying. Let your running style be tidy in all ways.

Other useful information:

Prize Giving:

This will take place in the registration hall at about 1:30 pm /or as soon after, dependant on when the results are available. If you win a prize and are not there to collect, they will be held by the club for up to 1 week and then we will share them out amongst ourselves, in order to pretend we are great runners.

When it comes to age categories, don't assume you haven't won!

  • T-Shirt Size

Token Redemption (Previous Volunteers):

If you have earned sufficient tokens through volunteering at NDRR's various events, you will have the opportunity to Redeem those Tokens against your Race Entry. Race Entry will cost 15 Tokens and the option to pay via Tokens will ONLY appear on your Entry Page if you have sufficient Tokens. No part-payment in Tokens is available.

You will be able to sign up a guest using Tokens if you are not planning to run yourself /or if you have sufficient Tokens to allow you to make multiple entries.

Finishing line:

You thought it was all road? In the last few hundred meters after the car park, you pass along a grass (mud?) path/track to join the main Athletics track, Take care here, you don't want to end up with mud on your face this close to the line!

There are actually 2 finish pens. One for the 10 Km race and one for the 10 Mile. As you enter the Athletics track, please position yourself on the correct side of the track for your finish. After passing the finish, please move on to the medal and water station to help keep the finish area clear.

That's it. You get your medal!

Post Race/Results:

Results are incrementally provided in the registration hall as best as we can produce them, please don't be offended if the timing team at the finish line mid-race are too busy to delve into the data to get your specific time.

Full results aren't available until a short while after the last runner comes home.

We are using Webscorer to time the race and produce the results, so if you, (or your friends/family), want to see the interim results live as they are produced, then get the Webscorer App, (it's free), on your iOS/Android device. Follow the instructions given here: https://www.webscorer.com/getapp

FREE results app for iOS & Android

If you didn't wear your T-Shirt and you think you might want to swap it, then this may be possible. Go have a beer (or cup of tea and cake) you've earned it!

Force Majeure:

In the unfortunate & unlikely event that we have to cancel the race due to inclement weather or similar causes that would pose a risk to the health & safety of runners and volunteers alike, the race committee will make every effort to post advance notice on the website, social media and via email.

Due to the costs involved, we will not be able to offer refunds in this instance, but medals and t-shirts will still be available for collection from the registration hall on race day, if the conditions allow.

After a full financial reconciliation has been done, the race committee may make the decision to refund you in part /or offer discounts towards future races, but this will be at the sole discretion of the race director and only if funds and logistics allow.

GOOD LUCK AND HAVE A GREAT RACE!!
