BRAUNTON 10 (2020) :: FINAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BRAUNTON 10 MARSHALS / VOLUNTEERS

DRAFT OLD VERSION LIVE

FINAL INSTRUCTIONS FOR BRAUNTON 10 MARSHALS / VOLUNTEERS

First of all, I owe you a huge debt of gratitude for coming forward to support the running of the Braunton 10, (excuse the pun). Without yourselves, this race could never proceed and for that I wanted to give you my personal thanks.

Included below is all the information you may need in order to fulfil your various roles. Any information not covered in this email /or it's attachments will be answered at the briefings on Sunday. You are also welcome to email me in advance with any particular concerns.

I have included a final marshal / volunteer schedule below. Please DO read carefully.

Wherever possible, please do not request further changes, as that may serve to confuse the balance of the marshals and myself, (I'm easily confused)

Could I also ask that you print out documentation relevant to yourselves and take special note of the Emergency Contact Numbers (contained in the briefing notes below) for the day.

Marshal Advise & Briefing Notes (I have attached as a document as well, for ease of printing):

  • Marshals and volunteers can park behind the Braunton School hall, as directed by the parking marshals. However once in, your car is likely to be there until after the end of the race.
  • Marshals are responsible for getting themselves to their designated marshal points / water stations. There are parking positions nearby /or at each station. Please do your best not to obstruct the flow of traffic/or the runners.
  • A few Marshals at the start have been asked to Marshal at the end as well. (See schedule above.) Please print off the map/s of where you need to be and familiarise yourself in advance.
  • Bring warm waterproof clothing and comfortable footwear.
  • Please bring your mobile phone and update the Marshal Schedule with your mobile number if possible. This can be done HERE
  • Print a copy /or store in your phone the Emergency Contact Numbers. Race organisers and sweepers, will also have access to a radio.
  • High Visibility Coats / Tabards will be available for collection at the Marshal Briefing in the Braunton Community College (Isaac Hall).
  • A Parking-specific briefing will be held in the Isaac Hall at the Braunton Community College at 08h30and a Marshal Briefing at 09h30. Please do attend. Those helping with Registration / Baggage / Meet & Greet should be in the hall from 09h00.
  • Please be at your Marshal Station with plenty of time (i.e. A minimum of 20 minutes before the first runners come through). The lead runners will be running at circa 5 minute miles. Water Stations will need to be there earlier, as you will require time to advance-fill as many cups as possible.
  • At junctions and crossroads, please indicate to runners in advance, by raising your arm and indicating the direction they should be going.
  • At certain marshal stations, (see notes above), the 10 Mile and 10K runners split (/or re-join), please make careful effort to instruct the runners to take the right route. To assist, 10 Mile runners have GREEN race bibs, while the 10K runners have ORANGE race bibs.
  • If a vehicle approaches your station and is proceeding towards the runners, wave them down and inform them of the hazard. Ask them politely to wait, if the road is narrow /or proceed with caution if the road is wide enough. Likewise, please instruct runner to move to the side of the road while running.
  • Please DO NOT leave your station until the Sweepers make themselves known to you. Where the 10K and 10 Mile runners share the same route, you will need to wait for BOTH of them to pass.
  • In a Medical Emergency FIRST dial 999 and then the First Aiders (Medicare 07865 662 200). It would also help if you contacted myself thereafter. Justin 07919 345 966
  • Some of you at critical positions will be given a radio and shown how to contact Race HQ.
  • If you are not 100% sure of where to go, what to do /or which direction to send the runners. Please ask myself, Trevor Bryan /or Steve Ratigan.
  • An enthusiastic, supportive marshal is great encouragement to runners. Go out there and have fun!

Parking Advise & Briefing Notes (I have attached as a document as well, for ease of printing):

  • Please attend the Parking Briefing at 08h20 on Sunday in the Isaac Hall at the Braunton Academy. If you have any further questions after the briefing, then you can speak to myself /or Steve Ratigan.
  • Some of you at critical positions will be given a radio and shown how to contact Race HQ.
  • Principally the following information is relevant when it comes to parking...
  • Perrigo: This parking area has space for circa 300 cars and should be the primary parking used for ALL runners. You will be advised at the briefing where to stand, but please do assist vehicles in filling the spaces effectively.
  • Williams Arms: We have a well-briefed marshal here, who working in conjunction with the Williams Arms and who will be checking to see is people have a pre-booked a post race meal. Even then, only 20 places are available.
  • Southmead School: This parking is NOT for runners, but for those vehicles that would NORMALLY have parked at the Race Track, (e.g. the footballers). You will need to re-direct runners to Perrigo in the first instance. Once that is full, race HQ will be notified and then you will be notified that the overflow (if any spaces left) behind Braunton School can be used.
  • Race Track: NO PARKING, except V.IP.s and for the disabled. Vehicles with runners will need to be re-directed to Perrigo and vehicles with e.g. footballers etc, will need to be sent to the Southmead parking.
  • Braunton School: This is meant for volunteers and marshals ONLY (it may also b used as overflow parking when and if Perrigo becomes full . .Steve Rattigan will advise).

Water Station Advise & Briefing Notes (I have attached as a document as well, for ease of printing):

  • Water Station 1: (Please see attached maps for location) As/per notes above, please collect your water, cups, foldable table/s and bin bags up from the the Race Village.
  • Water Station 2: (Please see attached maps for location) Oz: As/per notes above, please collect your water, cups, foldable table/s and bin bags up from Steve Ratigan's house.
  • Water Station 3: (Please see attached maps for location) As/per notes above, please collect your water, cups, foldable table/s and bin bags up from the the Race Village.

General Advise:

At water stations 1 & 2 especially, the runners will be coming through thick and fast. Resultantly you may need to hold 2 cups in each hand and have plenty of pre-filled cups available on your table. As you run out, it may be easier to scoop water from a bucket than trying to use the taps on the water bottles to re-fill. You may want to assign one person, who's primary duty is re-filling cups.

After the race, prize giving and I have finished helping pack-up, I would love it if you could join me at the Williams Arms and where I would be happy to buy all of you a round of drinks.
