Andy Mansfield and Simon Oliver bravely set off for the Golden Horseshoe 15.5 mile long off road race on the Eastern side off Exmoor around the villages of Exford and Winsford on Sunday 16th May.  Andy to defend his title won last year and Simon to not be eaten by the beast of Exmoor.

The route is fantastic following riverside tracks, bit of road and lots of open moorland with very gentle soft turf. Oh and a few gentle hills. Weather conditions were perfect with low cloud and little wind. The way marking was sparse and had to be concentrated on to follow the correct route.

The winning time was 2.05 and Andy finished in 2.07. Simon completed in 2.22. There were 15 finishers. It was a bit lonely most of the race, plenty of time to be eaten by the beast with no one around to notice.  Oh yes, we sometimes caught glimpses of Tony Vesty in the swirling mist still trying to find the finish line from last years event!!!
