Eight intrepid runners braved the early morning fog to trek down to Seaton for this years 20 mile very off road Grizzly race. The conditions were perfect with glorious sunshine and a gentle breeze to keep everyone fresh. Conditions under foot were perfect except where they were purposely designed not to be. The run is on fields, tracks, beach, hills and a bit of tarmac at the start and finish. There are 2 sections at around 12 miles where you are directed into a couple of swamps full of black stinky mud. It is calf deep after 100 runners but thigh deep after 1500 runners have chewed it up and cried in it! I saw one unfortunate lad fall into it, was briefly pulled upright by the marshal for the photographer to take his picture, then allowed to plop back into the mud his purpose having been served- the rest of ours entertainment!!.
(I'm glad to see that the dead runner's skeleton has been moved from the swamp area now. It had been there for several years but I guess it frightened the tourists. Oh yes results...
