John Shapland was selected as a reserve for the four strong V55 England team at the British and Irish Cross Country International at Bellahouston Park in Glasgow. On a wet and windy day and a muddy waterlogged course the V55 team took the Gold medal  and John finished 16th overall and 2nd V55 in the reserve/open race in a time of 23.57, as this was the last race the course was in a treacherous condition. England were also the overall winners of the International winning all the Ladies categories and six of the eight Mens categories. Although enjoying the International experience the race did little to change Johns opinion of cross country and off- road races!!
