John Shapland travelled to Northumberland to compete in the Tynedale 10 mile road race which incorporated the BMAF 10 mile championships.

The route was from Hexham to Ovingham and was an undulating first five miles followed by a fairly flat four miles before a steep climb to the finish. He completed the course in 59.02 to finish 20th overall of the 700 entrants and win the British Masters V55 Gold Medal, also finishing in front of the first V50.
